Since we started reading The Unexpected Adventure, I have been praying for God to bring more and more opportunites for me to talk to people about Him, and He has definitely been faithful. One such conversation took place a few hours ago.

On Saturday nights I am one of the teachers in the Kids’ Church room (1-5th grade). Tonight, we talked about how God loves and cares for us, and how He provides for all of our needs. In the beginning of the service, I noticed a new girl come in. She was with her stepmom and I went over and introduced myself. The girl said that her name was Kay and was 9 years old and in 4th grade.

For some reason, God just really put her on my heart as soon as she said that. Then, during the teaching time, I noticed she was raising her hand. I went over to her and she asked, “Who’s Satan?” I had the perfect opportunity to talk to this little girl about who Jesus is. So I took her outside and asked her if she knew who Jesus was. She said yes but really just wanted to know who Satan was. I attempted explained to her who he is. Then, I asked her if she had ever accepted Jesus into her heart and she said, “No, I’m too busy for that. I don’t have time to pray.” This is coming from a 9-year-old girl! I continued to tell her that Jesus was good and about Him and she said, “But nothing good ever happens in my life,” she held up a cross and added, “I wear this cross everday hoping someone will help me and no one ever does.”

Right there, my heart broke for Kay. Her heart was so hard at such a young age. To make a long story short, I continued to talk to her about Jesus and another leader came also, but nothing seemed to change. Afterwords, she came to me during a worship song and asked me to pray for her to “have a better future.”

So overall, I don’t know what God did in Kay’s heart, but I know that a seed was planted. I didn’t have all the answers. In fact, at times in our conversation I was at a loss for words. I didn’t have a plan. I even a little embarrassed at times. Although, I know that it doesn’t matter. All I can do is pray for her and remember that HIS WORD DOES NOT RETURN VOID. The adventure is unexpected and often uncomfortable, but in the end it is all for the glory of His name. Kay will see the Truth and the overwhelming Love of her Heavenly Father, and I am priviledged to be used in a small part in her journey. Thank You, Jesus.
